Floyd County Schools is proud to announce that Armuchee Primary School (APS), Garden Lakes Elementary School (GLES), and Model Elementary School (MES) have been recognized as 2025 Georgia Title I Distinguished Schools by the Georgia Department of Education.

This honor places each school among the top 5% of Title I schools in the state for overall academic performance. The designation is based on combined English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics scores from the FY24 school year.

“We are incredibly proud of Armuchee Primary, Garden Lakes Elementary, and Model Elementary for earning this recognition,” said Dr. Glenn White, Superintendent of Floyd County Schools. “This achievement is yet another outstanding accomplishment for our schools and a clear reflection of the hard work, dedication, and determination of our teachers and students. Their commitment to excellence continues to shine through in every area of learning.”

Title I Distinguished Schools are recognized for consistently achieving high academic performance and closing gaps in student achievement. This recognition highlights the effectiveness of strong instruction, family and community engagement, and a commitment to student success.

Model Elementary School (MES) has been recognized as a 2024 winner in the Single Statewide Accountability System (SSAS) Award by the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement (GOSA)—a testament to the school’s commitment to academic excellence and student growth.

MES earned one significant distinction: 

• Bronze Award in Greatest Gains: Recognizing schools with significant improvement in student achievement over the last three years, as measured by the College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI).

“Model Elementary School is proud to have been awarded the Bronze Award for Greatest Gains from the Governor's Office of Student Achievement,” said Miranda Pryor, MES principal. “ This recognition highlights the significant achievement and growth our students have demonstrated academically as they consistently pursue knowledge and personal development. Our dedicated teachers and staff have put in tremendous effort to emphasize academic success and nurture a passion for learning among our students. We remain devoted to maintaining high standards of academic excellence and are thrilled to receive this acknowledgment of the efforts of our students and staff.”

The SSAS Awards are part of GOSA’s effort to celebrate schools making strides in student progress and performance. Schools receiving these awards are among the highest-achieving and fastest-improving in Georgia. More information can be found here.

On Thursday, the Georgia Department of Education announced its 2023-24 lists of Distinguished and Reward schools, with Model Elementary and Pepperell Primary receiving the Distinguished School honor and Garden Lakes earning the Reward School honor.

The Distinguished Schools designation recognizes the highest-performing Title I schools in Georgia, while the Reward Schools designation recognizes Title I schools making the most significant improvements.

“I am so proud of Garden Lakes Elementary, Model Elementary, and Pepperell Primary for earning the Distinguished and Rewards School honor from the Georgia Department of Education,” stated Superintendent Dr. Glenn White. “This recognition highlights the hard work, dedication, and excellence demonstrated by our students, teachers, and staff who collaborate daily to achieve excellence. Congratulations on this accomplishment.”

Distinguished Schools are among the highest-performing 5% of Title I Schoolwide and Title I Targeted Assistance schools, based on the combined ELA and math content mastery scores from the statewide assessments in 2022-2023.

Reward Schools are among the greatest-improving 5% of Title I Schoolwide and Title I Targeted Assistance schools when comparing the content mastery scores from the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 of statewide assessments.

“I am incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication demonstrated by all the students, teachers, and school communities recognized today,” State School Superintendent Richard Woods said. “The Title I Distinguished and Reward Schools have also made significant efforts to overcome barriers, meet challenges, and produce great gains for their students. Together, these schools prove that with collaboration, innovation, and a commitment to success, all students can achieve their fullest potential.”
